Betting 5G, but it’s hard to return to the mainstream
From the past 2G to 3G, 3G to 4G development, each generation of mobile communication network changes, for mobile phone manufacturers, will bring a new round of exchange bonus.
The upcoming 5G network will bring a new wave of exchanges, and ZTE terminals are expected to be high.
But before this window comes, ZTE’s current strategy is to focus on the carrier and enterprise custom machine market that has always been good at it.
Xu Feng said that ZTE will integrate and optimize the comprehensive advantages of the company's terminals, operators, and government and enterprises, and form synergies in the three major business areas, and deepen the operation of operators, industry customers and e-commerce channels to prepare for the upcoming 5G era.
In short, ZTE’s mobile phone will shrink in the domestic open market, focusing on operators and industry users, as well as online e-commerce.
“The other focus is on the development of 5G. We have end-to-end solutions. 5G is our key opportunity to cooperate with global operators. So we will launch two experimental products of CPE and smart phones at the end of this year. Launched a formal commercial product." Xu Feng said that the specific release time of this flagship product will match the speed of the 5G network construction of global operators.
Judging from the timetable given by China Mobile, China Unicom and China Telecom, the 5G network will be launched for commercial trials next year and will be officially commercialized by 2020.
Xu Feng said that 5G will have a big change from 4G, that is, the hardware equipment will be very complicated, and the number of antennas on the terminal will increase significantly compared with the 4G era. The full coverage of the millimeter wave band and the interference of harmonics are very big challenges for mobile phone manufacturers.
At present, Huawei, OPPO, Xiaomi, etc., all said that they will launch their first 5G mobile phones in the next year.
According to the latest data from IDC, global smartphone shipments in the third quarter of 2018 were 355.2 million units, down 6.0% year-on-year. Domestic mobile phone manufacturers Huawei, OPPO and Xiaomi ranked in the top five.
Compared with these major domestic mobile phone overlords, ZTE's mobile phone is still far behind, and the revival is difficult, but there will be no chance.
In Xu Feng's view, 5G will become a new development opportunity for ZTE in the highly competitive mobile phone market.
